Sonicblue Airways regrets to announce a tragic accident occurred involving a flight scheduled to operate from Tofino to Vancouver on Saturday, January 21, 2006.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who were on board the flight and to their families.
An ongoing investigation is being carried out by the Transportation Safety Board. So far the investigation has discovered that a part of the turbine wheel in the engine showed signs of fatigue failure. This part was deep in the engine and would not have been part of Sonicblue's maintenance responsibilities.
Transport Canada has temporarily suspended Sonicblue's operating certificate. This in turn led to SonicBlue's bank withdrawing financial support to the company.
Sonicblue Airways has filed for temporary protection from its creditors as a result of the events following the accident. The company has always been financially strong, and intends to work closely with Transport Canada and the bank to continue operations and preserve the livelihoods of its nearly 60 employees.
